Dr. Jamie Berner
(Formerly Dr. Jamie Coughlan)
Dr. Jamie Berner is originally from Lake Tahoe and attended University of Nevada, Reno, where she majored in biology. She received her naturopathic medical degree from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington where she was trained in primary care medicine. While completing her degree, she obtained additional training and certification in intravenous nutritional therapy and volunteered on two medical brigades offering primary care medicine to rural communities in Ghana and Nicaragua.
Following graduation from Bastyr University, Dr. Berner joined a pain medicine practice where she spent the next seven years treating patients suffering from chronic pain and helping them decrease their use of opiate medications and regain a functional lifestyle. Concomitantly, she ran her own practice where she specialized in bioidentical hormones, thyroid disease, women’s health, gastrointestinal disease, and autoimmune disease using a functional medicine approach. No matter the health concern, Dr. Berner employs functional medicine to look upstream from a patient’s symptoms to discover their root cause of disease. Often, she uses clinical tests not normally available through a conventional doctor’s office to help assess a patient’s health including comprehensive urine hormone tests, micronutrient testing, and comprehensive digestive stool analysis etc.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Berner serves on the California Naturopathic Doctor’s Association core legislative team to help build relationships with state and federal legislators and advocate for increased scope expansion and insurance coverage of naturopathic doctors. She has lectured at the John Muir Women’s Health Center on topics of chronic pain and enjoys educating the community about health and naturopathic medicine. In her spare time Dr. Berner loves to snowboard, travel, and spend time with her growing family and dog.
